What does an SEO consultant actually do for you?

SEO consulting means a specialist reviews your website and your market, tells you where the problems are, which tasks come first and which ones are not worth your time right now — and then your own team does the work. The output of consulting is not code or articles; it is diagnosis, decisions and a roadmap. That is why consulting suits businesses that already have people to do the work — a developer, a writer or someone who runs the website — but do not know where and in what order to spend that team’s time and energy.

This is the main difference from the “SEO services” page. With SEO services, the MyTarh team writes the content, fixes the technical issues, builds links and sends you a monthly report. With consulting, we do not touch your website; we work alongside your team, review the work before it goes live and correct the course whenever it goes wrong. As a result, the knowledge and experience stay inside your company and the monthly cost is lower — but how fast you progress depends entirely on how much your team executes, and how well.

So in the free first session, before making any proposal, we ask one question: who is going to do the work? If the answer is “nobody”, we will tell you honestly that consulting is not enough for you and that full SEO execution is the better choice. If you have a team, consulting usually starts with a full audit and leads to a written roadmap for six to twelve months, where every item has a clear order of execution and an owner. As we continue working together, sessions are spent reviewing completed work, reading fresh data and setting priorities for the next month. The table further down this page puts consulting next to the two other options so you can choose more easily.

When is SEO consulting better value than full SEO execution?

These six situations are the most common reasons businesses come to an SEO consultant. If you recognize yourself in one of them, you probably need guidance, not more hands:

You have a team but no results

Your writer or website manager has been publishing for months, yet traffic from Google has not moved. Usually the problem is topic selection, several pages competing for the same keyword, or a hidden technical issue that is hard to see from inside the company. A consultant finds that knot first, so your team’s effort is not wasted.

Your traffic has suddenly dropped

Organic traffic fell after a Google update, a theme change or a hosting move. The first step is to find the cause using Search Console and Analytics data, not to change everything blindly. Sometimes the cause is a wrong robots setting or canonical tag, and sometimes the drop comes from weak content; the fix for each is completely different.

Before a redesign or website migration

Changing page URLs, the domain or the platform without a page map and a redirect plan can wipe out rankings that took years to build. Consulting before you start costs far less than repairing the damage after a drop. The output of this stage is a list of old and new URLs that your technical team follows exactly.

Launching a new website

If the category structure, URLs and main pages are built around what users actually search for from day one, you will not need an expensive rebuild later. This is the cheapest time to get consulting; if you have handed the website design to a team, give them the page map before design begins.

Overseeing an SEO agency or freelancer

You have outsourced SEO and are not sure how relevant the reports are to your business. An independent review shows whether the work is heading in the right direction or only moving unimportant numbers around. It helps you ask the right questions in your meetings with the agency.

Building an in-house SEO team

You want SEO to stay inside your company and not depend on any agency. Consulting combined with training helps your team learn prioritization, data reading and a working routine on its own website, not on the generic examples of a training course.

SEO consulting, full SEO services or in-house team training?

All three paths aim for the same goal — growing organic traffic — but the division of work, the cost and what you are left with at the end are different:

None of these three paths guarantees a specific ranking on Google. If you start with consulting and then find your team lacks the capacity to execute, you can move to SEO services. See the current figures in the “Choose a package” section of this page.

What do the cost and length of SEO consulting depend on?

The price of consulting itself is transparent and listed on this page: a 90-minute “single session” is $120, the “monthly package” with four sessions is $450/month, and the “yearly package” with 48 sessions is $4,500/year. What really varies is which one you need and how long the engagement lasts. A specific question — for example, why an important page dropped out of the index, or how your store’s URL structure should look — can usually be answered in a single session. But recovering lost traffic or building a content strategy is a multi-month job that needs regular sessions and continuous review.

Three factors have the biggest effect on how long the engagement lasts. First, the size and complexity of the website: a corporate site with a few pages and a store with thousands of product pages and filters do not need the same audit and roadmap. Second, how competitive your field is: in a market where competitors have worked on content and domain authority for years, the strategy should go after less competitive opportunities first, and reaching the main keywords takes longer; in a field where competitors are weak, a few correct fixes may show results sooner. Third — and most important — your team’s capacity to execute: a roadmap where only a small part is carried out each month will naturally take longer to deliver results, however well it is written.

The path we recommend for most businesses is simple: a free first session to see whether consulting is useful for you at all, then the monthly package, which also includes the initial audit, and — once the routine is in place and your team needs structured training — the yearly package. Costs outside consulting — your execution team’s salaries, content production, sponsored articles or paid tools — are paid directly by you and are not included in the consulting fee. Our role is to help that budget go to the right place, so that before any large expense you know why you are spending it and what to expect.

What do you receive during the engagement?

Consulting without written output is forgotten within a few weeks. These are the things you keep; the exact scope of each item depends on the package you choose:

Audit and diagnosis

  • Technical audit report: indexing, crawling, speed, URL structure and redirects
  • Review of existing content: overlapping, weak or zero-traffic pages
  • Review of internal links and the website’s inbound links
  • Analysis of your main competitors and the topics they have not covered
  • Analysis of Google Analytics and Google Search Console data

Strategy and roadmap

  • A list of target keywords, grouped by search intent
  • A written six-to-twelve-month roadmap with priorities and order of execution
  • An owner for every task: developer, writer or website manager
  • The metrics used to measure progress

Ongoing support and training

  • Regular sessions to review completed work and correct the course
  • Review of your team’s output, such as articles or technical changes, before publishing
  • Answers to questions between sessions; via WhatsApp in the monthly package
  • A monthly report, or a weekly report in the yearly package
  • Training your in-house team to work independently in the yearly package
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

With SEO consulting, we provide strategy, training and guidance, and your team does the work. With SEO execution, our team does the work directly. If you have an in-house team, consulting is more cost-effective.

Sessions are held online (Google Meet or Zoom). You can share your screen so we can review your site together.

Yes. The first 30-minute session is completely free. In it, we review the overall state of your site and, if something is wrong, we tell you honestly.

Access to your site's Google Analytics and Search Console, a list of keywords you want to rank for, and a list of your main competitors. If you do not have these, that is fine too.

SEO results depend on the quality of execution. We provide a proven strategy, but carrying it out correctly matters too. If your team cannot handle execution, our SEO execution packages are a better fit.

Prices are fixed and published on this page: a single 90-minute session is $120, the monthly package with four sessions is $450 per month, and the yearly package is $4,500 per year. The cost of carrying out the work, such as paying a writer or developer, is separate and yours to cover.

If you have one specific question or issue, such as a page dropping out of the index or a decision about URL structure, a single session is enough. If you want to grow site traffic over several months, the monthly package is a better fit, because it includes an initial audit, a custom strategy and regular review of your team's work. Without follow-up, a roadmap usually stays half done.

To some extent. If you work with your site panel yourself and have time to do the work, our guidance can help you move a large part of it forward. But if nobody is available to carry it out, consulting just leaves a good report on the desk, and SEO execution services are the better choice.

Usually not. For most reviews, view access to Google Analytics and Search Console is enough, and since your own team does the work, we do not need to change your site directly. Any access you give stays under your control, and you can revoke it at any time.

Yes, and in fact it is the cheapest time to do it. If decisions about category structure, page URLs and main pages are made before the site is built and based on what users really search for, you will not need a rebuild or risky redirects later.

A course teaches the same general principles to everyone. In consulting, everything is reviewed against your own site, data and competitors, and your team learns to apply those principles to the real problems of your business. In-house team training in the yearly package is also done on your team's real work.

The audit and roadmap built during consulting are not lost and can be the starting point for SEO execution services. Just raise it in your next session, and we will discuss a suitable execution package together.

At the start, we agree on success metrics together, such as the number of indexed pages, impressions and clicks in Search Console, and organic traffic to target pages. SEO is medium-term work, and the effect of the roadmap usually shows in these numbers a few months later, provided the tasks were actually carried out in order.
